chapter seven ;

If all the flowers faded away, and if all the storm clouds decided to stay, then you would find me. Each hour the same. She is tomorrow, and I am today. If right is leaving, I'd rather be wrong. She is sunlight, and the sun is gone ..

I couldn't understand if I felt, angry at Brent, or at myself for being so stupid. I didn't listen to my brother for once, and look what it cost me. Nothing but a tear soaked pillow.

Was I overreacting? I couldn't even tell. I don't think Brent would've taken her back. There was just something about her, she gave me a nasty feeling. But .. what do I know.

There was a knock on my door, then it clicked open. That only meant that it was Duncan. I didn't move from my spot. His footsteps grew louder and heavier as he got closer, then the edge of my bed sunk and his hand was on my leg.

"I'm not here to say I told you so, but, what happened?"

"His ex girlfriend showed up." I muttered.

"Annabelle?"

"Yeah."

He sighs, "Ally, let me tell you the story behind her before you get all worked up."

I suddenly grow interested, and looked up at him. "What happened?"

"She's, uh, how do I put this .. an alcoholic whore."

Trying to hold back my laugh, I sat up on my bed and waited for him to continue.

"She seemed nice, she was really good for the first few months. But then we noticed a drop in her weight, her attitude, and everything. Then when we were out of town, Burish had to stay back cause of his knee, and she showed up totally hammered and wanted to sleep with him."

"Whoa." was I could manage to say. "How did Brent find out?"

"Well, Bur told us, then we told Brent. He didn't believe us, until we showed up a club she was at, and it wasn't pretty."

I frowned, "I can see why Brent needed me to leave. She's probably too gone to even realize what happened. Wait, how in the hell did she know he was up here?"

"Steeger and his big mouth."

"Of course" I replied, rolling my eyes. "Who else."

"You know I don't like you being with Brent, but he wouldn't do that to you. She just needs to .."

"Fuck off?" I suggested.

He laughed, "Yeah that too. Look, why don't we hang out tonight? I hear the pier carnival opened today."

"That sounds good, let me change and then we'll go."

He nods and leaves my room. I threw on some ripped jeans cause it was cooling off tonight, and put on a long sleeved burgundy hollister shirt. I smiled. I felt like a weight was lifted from me. It's not like I didn't think she needed help, cause she did. But I know that Brent wouldn't take her back. I think

chapter six ;

"You can't even hold a normal conversation, but you can tell your friends I ruined your life, whatever helps your perfect reputation, cause I'm not losing sleep tonight. I met a girl and she's more than a pretty face, 6 drinks and she still remembers my name, fine as hell, but I think I might as well drop Annabelle"

"Ally, cmon, it's not gunna be that bad."

I looked over at him, I wasn't sure to believe him or not. But his eyes were making it hard for me to say no. I mean how bad could it be? Hypothetically speaking, if he made the team, we'd see each other during the Olympics with them being held in Vancouver. He plays Vancouver twice during the season in Vancouver, so I'd see him then too. Then I was done school at the end of March, so I could fly down and be with him. Oh god Ally, shuttup and reply to the man. He's eagerly staring at you.

"What makes you so sure?"

He sighs and lightly grabs my hand. "Because, you mean a lot to me, and I'm sure Duncan would kick my ass if I hurt you."

I smirked. "I don't want you being with me for the sake of Duncan's happiness. I want you to be with me, cause you want to."

"Well, I do. I can promise you that."

I leaned over and gently kissed him. Our eyes locked as I pulled away. It felt like sparks were flying over my head. I reached for his hand, and he stood up following me into his house. My flip flops weren't even off before I was pressed against the wall getting showered with kisses to my neck, then he pulled my mouth into an untouchable kiss.

I could feel my skin burning as his hand ran up my shirt and onto my stomach. I gripped onto his neck as he swooped me into his arms and onto the couch. He placed himself over me and brought his mouth back to mine. I really hope he wasn't expecting me to go that far with him. We only met last night. I wasn't that kind of girl, but damn, he was addictive ..

The hem of his shirt was like silk against my fingers as I grabbed it, wanting to throw it over his head. He lifted himself off me and with both of my hands, I got his shirt halfway up his chest before the door bell rang.

"Oh my god, this is ridiculous." I laughed.

"Can we please be left alone?" He groaned tugging his shirt down and walking towards the door.

I smoothed my hair down and waited for the voice on the other side of the door. I couldn't hear anything, so I got up from the couch and right over to the door.

My heart was sinking into my stomach the closer I got. A tall, brunette stood on the other side. Her long hair was set in perfect waves, her black high-waisted skirt matched her pink cami. The mascara was smudged under her eyes as the tears fell.

"WHO ARE YOU!" Her scream caught me by surprise. I couldn't think. Who the hell was she to talk to me like that?

"Uhm, sweetheart, cut the drama." I snapped back flashing a wicking smile. "I'm Ally, and I'm with Brent."

"Wow, you move on fast." She shot to Brent.

"Wait, who the fuck are you?"

"I'm Annabelle, Brent's ex, who he still loves." She really emphasized that last part.

"Huh, did he say that?" I asked, crossing my arms.

"Ally, just .. let me talk to her." Brent softly said.

My breath got stuck in my throat. "You want me to leave?"

"I'm sorry, just let me set her straight."

I huffed and walked past the both of them, knocking right into Annabelle's shoulder. I could feel the tears burning in my eyes, but, I didn't let them fall just yet. I just simply slid on my sunglasses as the sun burned my back.

As I got home, I found Duncan sitting in the same spot I left him. He shot up from the couch and looked over at me. His face fell, I think he knew what happened.

"Wow, you're home early."

I just shook my head as my tears blinded me, heading up to my room where I cried till I couldn't feel anything.

chapter five ;

"You love me for who I am, like the stars hold the moon, right there where the belong, and I know I'm alone. When my world is falling apart, when there's no light to break up the dark, that's when I look at you."

Brent and I walked down the scorching road, side by side down to his new house. I couldn't believe that he had moved here. I mean why? He's only a two hour drive away from here in the first place. Whatever his heart wants, I guess.

He lead me up his driveway and I took in the layout of his place. It was brand new, of course. This house was up for sale for months, I remember the days when they were just digging the dirt up, now it's his place. Just a little surreal if you asked me.

His house was one floor, but it looked right onto the lake like ours did. It had a californian vibe to it. The inside was painted a deep brown with wooden flooring, granite marble tops, and it was beautiful. He didn't have much furniture in it yet, but that was obvious. He grabbed us two budlight limes and we headed out onto his patio.

"So, what made you want to live up here?" I asked him.

"I just liked coming up here as a kid. My dad would bring us up here for camping, fishing and stuff. Then playing against the rockets in junior, I came here a lot. I just love the vibe of this place."

"Yeah, it's beautiful." I replied looking out onto the lake.

We talked for a bit, sharing other dreams we may have had and what he expected coming into the next season. His smile was totally captivating me, I felt like I couldn't even breathe when he looked at me. What was Duncan's problem? He was totally harmless ..

He shifted his seat closer to mine, lightly brushing my jaw line with his finger. My breath was growing shaky, and he noticed. It felt like the world was standing still. He shifted his face closer to mine, almost to the point that our lips were touching - but then his phone went off.

"fuck." he muttered before he grabbed his phone off the table. I let out a nervous sigh and ran my fingers through my hair. Typical habit for me. I watched him intently as his face was serious, then that childish grin appeared on his face yet again. "Yeah, for sure. Thanks for the news."

"What was that about?"

His green eyes were beaming as he looked over at me, and he rested his hand on my lap. "That was my agent, and I've been invited for the orienteering camp for Team Canada."

"Like, for the Olympics?"

"Yes."

I let out some shriek of excitement, shot out of my seat and right into his arms. He gripped onto my sides. I was happy for him, he was amazing enough in his play to play for our country. It made me wonder if Dunc's got a call. I wouldn't be shocked. They were one of the best defensive pairs out there.

I pulled away from his neck and brushed my mouth against his, my lips began to tingle as his lips moved perfectly with mine. I breathlessly pulled away from him, the heat of the sun wasn't helping my already burning skin.

"So what happens now?"

"I go to Calgary at the end of August for about a week. So, at least we get two full months together."

I smiled and sat back in my chair. I could hear Duncan's voice in my head about he didn't want me being hurt over this. But two months, it doesn't seem like that long. It would be over before it even began.

chapter four ;

I don't mean to run, but everytime you come around, I Feel more alive, than ever. I guess it's too much, maybe we're too young, and I don't even know whats real. But I Know I've never wanted anyone so bad. If I let you love me, be the one adored, would you go all the way? Be the one I'm looking for?

When I woke up the next morning, I had a perfect wave to my hair from getting knocked into the lake. Damn you Brent. I trudged into the bathroom, washed my face, left it make up free, put on a white cami and black shorts and headed downstairs.

"Hey big brother." I beamed as I grabbed an apple from the counter.

"You're awfully cheery, it's disgusting actually. What's up?"

I shrugged as I took the sticker off the apple and planted it on his hand. "Nodda. I had a good night last night."

"You and Brent seemed to hit it off"

"He's cool, I guess." I bit my lip, that was a total understatement

"Ally, I don't want you getting involved with him."

"Duncs, I'm 22. You're not dad, stop bossing me around." I sneered through a clenched jaw.

"Fine. But once he leaves at the end of the summer, I don't want you crying to me."

He got up from the table and left me standing in the middle of the kitchen. I groaned, he was right. Maybe it would just summer fling or something. No emotions, no strings attached, nothing. But the attachment I felt in my heart, it felt like more than that. I wanted it to be more than that.

I felt my phone vibrate in my back pocket, I pulled it out and it was text from Brent.

"Hey, you busy tonight?"

"No, why?"

"I wanna take you out for dinner."

"I'm not busy right now. Wanna hang out?"

"Sure, I'll be right over."

I could feel that stupid smile growing on my face yet again. I finished up my breakfast and headed into the living room. Duncan was planted on the couch, so being the antagonizing sister I was, I sat right on his stomach.

"Oh, dude. This would've been okay if you were like, 8 years old." He groaned.

"Deal with it." I spat back, looking at the TV. He was watching a Blue Jays game. We weren't really huge baseball fans, but, if it was the only thing on, we watched it. "Oh, I'm going out with Brent tonight."

"Really?"

"Yeah," I said as I heard a knock on the door. "Actually, that's him now. Later!" I got off his chest and slid my flip flops on.

"So, what am I supposed to do today?" He pouted.

"You'll figure out, bye brother!"

I swung the door open and my breath got stuck in my throat. Today Brent had on a black Chicago cubs t-shirt on and white board shorts, with black flip flap. Man, he was 500 kinds of adorable.

chapter three ;

"You're beautiful, every little piece, love. Don't you know you're really gunna be someone? Ask anyone. When you find everything you've looked for, I hope your life leads you back to my front door, and if you don't .. stay beautiful"

A few hours had flown by, our kitchen was practically bare, no scraps were left behind. Beer cans were scattered all over the place, some of the boys were still here, but my friends had to leave. I sat on the dock, letting my toes feel the cold water of the lake. Someone's footsteps were getting louder beside me. I figured it was my brother, but it wasn't. Brent sat beside me and smiled gently, making me lose my composure for that split second.

"Not very social are you?"

"I have my moments." I piped back looking out into the diamond lake.

"So, what's your story?" He asked casually, catching me off guard.

"Well, I'm 22. I'm going to college, and I'm also a personal trainer."

"Watcha studying?"

"Medical. I want to be a medic for your team after I grad next year."

He asked me more questions, I shared stories of when me and Duncan were younger, he grew really interested in everything I said. I sat indian style this time on the dock, so I could look at his face easier. He had his hands behind him resting on the dock, keeping him propped up. He was only inches from my face.

It felt like he knew me inside out by the time he was ready to leave. I gave him my number, even though I know Duncan may not like it. He reached out and grabbed my hands, pulling me up towards him.

"I'll call you tomorrow then I guess." He said as I nodded.

"I'd like that, goodnight."

He had this mischievous look on his face and it started to scare me. Before I could even respond, he grabbed my arms and threw me into the lake.

"Seabrook, you are so dead!" I screamed.

"You and what army?"

"STEEGER!"

Brent's eyes suddenly grew wide as Kris came up behind him and shoved him into the lake. My laughs were uncontrollable as he came up to the surface and shot me a nasty glare. I snickered again and pushed my hand in the water, splashing him in the face

"Ha, I'll get you for that." He growled.

"You don't scare me."

With my head high, I swam away from him for a mere second. He grabbed my ankle, and no matter how much I kicked and screamed, he wouldn't let me go. I heard him chuckle behind me and pull me over to him, and I was met with his chest.

The night was still, all I could hear was the crickets, muffled voices and the cracks of beer cans. The midnight moon bounced off the lake, and right into his eyes. My lungs were collapsing in my chest as he moved my hair from my face, and cupping my cheek. I took the plunge and pressed my mouth to his without a second thought.

chapter two ;

Soooo, I got some quick feedback on the first chapter. Yeah, it was short, but, I'm not into writing long chapters. So I hope to get more followers since some of my comments came from non followers. Thanks guys!
--------------
Boys break their necks trying to creep a little sneak peek. California girls, we're unforgettable. Daisy dukes, bikini's on top. Sun kissed skin, so hot, it will melt your popsicle.

After an hour or two running around town with Duncan, we made it home. He said hello to our parents, who were relieved that he was home. So was I. I had a feeling it would be a good summer.

Everyone helped get everything ready for later on. I had never seen so much food in my entire life. Well, then again, we were feeding a bunch of hockey players. I headed up to my room and changed into something cooler. I put on a black bikini and a short yellow sundress over it. I ran my brush through my long brown hair and headed back downstairs.

Being around Duncan's teammates was always awkward. They were big, strong, and intimating. They always looked at you like you were a piece of meat.

"Ally, why don't you invite some of your friends over." My mom asked as I cutting up an onion.

"I suppose I could do that," I muttered fetching my iPhone off the counter and texting my best friend Stephanie. Maybe if she was here, it wouldn't be so bad.

I heard her Honda Civic pull up to the driveway moments later, and she fed herself through the crowd with my three other friends, Gabriella, Christina and Gina.

We grabbed a few beers and headed out to the dock. The beauty of our house was that it was right on the lake. The sun was setting and the sky was set a golden, pink tone. Kenny Chesney was being blared over the crowd. I smiled. This is what summer should be.

"Do you guys want another one?" I suggested as I got up. They nodded and I headed back into the house.

As I got into the house there was someone already fishing through the fridge. I couldn't tell who it was, but he was really tall. Just then, the door closed, and I was met with two bright eyes.

"Holy shit, I didn't see you there." He replied, with a little jump in his voice.

"I .. uh .. it's kinda hard when you're poking through my fridge."

"Ah, you must be Ally. Duncan's sister." he replied.

"What makes you think that?"

He smirked, "the attitude, it's exactly like his."

"And you are ...?"

"Brent Seabrook."

Whoa. This was Brent? I mean, I had seen pictures of him before, and Duncan spoke about him in countless conversations. He looked so different without his gear on.

I was completely transfixed by him. My feet felt stuck, and I lost simple skills, like to shake his hand hello, or even smile back. I kept staring into his eyes, and he didn't seem to mind.

"Ah, Ally, I see you met Brent."

Big brother saves the day.

"Uh, yeah, I did." I stuttered, looking at my feet, my cheeks were growing hot.

"Well, get used to seeing him around. He just bought a place down the road for the offseason."

Seriously?

I headed back down to where my girls where, my face was beyond flushed. I sat on the dock and began to down my beer, causing a few confused looks.

"Are you okay?" Steph asked.

"I just met Seabrook."

"Is that bad?" Gina butted in.

"He's intimating, the way he looked at me .."

"Aw, I think someone has a crush on him."

I didn't respond to their comments. I fixated my eyes over to where he was. He was sitting with Toews and Sharp, talking about, god knows what. He had board shorts on and a white reebok shirt. i mean, in a dorky kind of way, he was attractive. Why was I reacting so much over him?

chapter one ;

June 2009
I'm gunna kick off my shoes and run in bare feet, where the grass, the dirt, and the gravel all meet. Gunna go back to the well, and visit old friends, and feed my soul where the blacktop ends
--------------------------

My brother was Duncan Keith, the star defencemen for Chicago Blackhawks, and he was coming home today. We still lived in the same house in Kelowna, British Columbia since I was born. He was going to be 26 in two weeks, I just had my 22nd birthday last month. Despite his team coming up short in the western conference final, he made me proud. He always did.

"Ally!"

He dropped his bag at the door and tackled me, causing me to giggle. He always did this when we were younger, and it never changed. I missed him, but I was lucky that the hawks played the Canucks in the playoffs, so I got to see him play three times in Vancouver last month, and twice during the regular season.

"I missed you, how are you?" he asked.

"Just working," I groaned thinking of my job. I was a personal trainer, and a yoga instructor. It was only until I could afford to move to Chicago though.

Duncan always told me he would pay for me to move down there, but that just wasn't the way I was brought up. I told him I would do it myself. I was also attending Simon Fraser University to finish my athletic medic degree. Of course, I was done for the summer. I only had a year left, then I was off to Chicago for good.

"Well, I hope you don't work tonight, cause I'm having people over."

I raised my eyebrow, "who?"

"Some guys from the team. They wanted to see our place, so be nice."

"Aren't I always?"

He threw his head back in a laugh, "not entirely. Now c'mon squirt, take me the store. We need to get food, and of course, booze"

He walked back outside into the warm summer wind. I rolled my eyes, not even home five minutes and he's out the door already. That was typical of him, I guess. I fetched my keys off the counter and headed out, not knowing what was in store for me tonight.
